Found Series using small canvas

I have combined one of the small canvases with this fantastic beach find the metal has been eaten away forming this organic natural looking shape it is encrusted with sand and very small stone particles. I think it works well do you.

I have been using the idea of transparency e,g. water and density of foam and sand

The middle canvas combines a small piece of metal in the shape of a heart I found on the beach

Found Series

The found objects were collected on a beach walk at Dunwich. I selected them because of their colour texture. The metal backing is wonderful, I could see it from a distance relatively large by other pieces I have found, I couldn't wait to reach it. From then on I was selecting finds that might work together as a finished piece. I have an obession with the beauty of weathered worn aged objects. My daughter recently returned from a short break to Florence with superb photos of worn buildings which brought back memories of my visit many years ago. The archive of images in my brain are very evident in my current paintings today.

This detail 0f Figure Stone Cliff Figures is a case in point. I see a correlation between the metal background on the found piece.

Below is a detail of the piece. I found all the pieces on the same walk. It shows a close up view of a Heartstone, the thin gauge wire which I used to attach objects and allows me to draw using the wire into the piece. The objects were selected because of the subtle colours and tone and textures. A window frame of an old caravan or boat with rivets, a paint brush handle which I thought were appropriate to me -all weathered etched by time- sand -sea -salt and wind.

New Work

My latest piece of work. I am so looking forward to returning to my caravan on the cliff top this piece is inspired by this. The excitement and enthusiasm for returning I hope is conveyed in the mixed media painting.

I long to see the sunrise the sunsets the birds the sea the cliff top. Just to stand and feel the sea breath the fresh air I can hardly wait.

Also I have include the pieces using an effects program on the computer they reveal like an X ray the pencil, crayon and brushes marks they also reveal the layers in the painting.

Sunsets and Mists over the Sea

Still working on the long thin paintings inspired by the observational watercolours of the misty sunsets over the sea.

The following paintings are also based on the mists at sunset over the horizon. I have been trying a new technique. Trying to achieve transparency along with texture and weight of the water.

Slow progress in studio enjoying watching dawn and sunrise

As it says in title I am making slow progress in the studio I have completed a few ideas using tissue collage. These are then going to be translated into the long thin 4ft format.

I have been making the most of days at Dunwich taking lots of pics sketching collecting stones and just looking in silence. This has been starting at dawn what wonderful colours the birds are great to flying over the sea circling round before heading off for the day, then comes the sunrise unique every time.

I cannot believe that this is the last week of the season I will be packing up the caravan till next March on the 31st I dread it. It has been really cold this last week the heating in the new van has been great.
