Found

I found this fantastic piece of shaped metal on a lovely warm sunny day the tide was out and the beach was sandy. I love the texture, colour, size and patina. It is so exciting stumbling across something like this. My brain goes into overdrive very satisfying.

Further on down the beach I found this piece of old pipe encrusted with stones. The colour is similar to the previous piece but it is more organic. I thought I would combine the pieces together but they seem to cancel one another out. I like to use pieces together from the same walk.

When I tried it out I think they cancel one another out.

I added 3 these small canvases to rusted beach find it acts as a frame. This works for me.

We had really strong winds and rough seas at the beginning of the week.

It was half term week so many more visitors to the site. These boys played for hours on the edge of the raging sea having great fun note the wellies which must have been very wet in side. The day before at this spot there was a vast expanse of sand and with the help of there dad they dug out a large boat- this took most of the morning and had great fun smashing it to pieces when the went up for lunch. Reminds me of my myself at there young age on or around this spot.

After a very blustery night in the caravan during my morning beach walk I found the pieces of wood on the tide line I have used in this found piece. I have used wire to lash them together to make the form of a boat shape. The piece of ply had come off a huge piece that I found further along the shore. The exposed layers and uneven shape reminded me of sails.

Detail of boat. I have in the past combined wire to draw on top of painting.

New Work

My latest piece of work. I am so looking forward to returning to my caravan on the cliff top this piece is inspired by this. The excitement and enthusiasm for returning I hope is conveyed in the mixed media painting.

I long to see the sunrise the sunsets the birds the sea the cliff top. Just to stand and feel the sea breath the fresh air I can hardly wait.

I have included a few stages below.

Also I have include the pieces using an effects program on the computer they reveal like an X ray the pencil, crayon and brushes marks they also reveal the layers in the painting.

I think I may have some digital postcards made of these. Warhol like !

Sketches in watercolour of sea

These sketches were completed after one of many heavy showers just as the sun was setting the colours constantly changing -very watery misty veiled undefined.

I love the long thin format and have used this successfully before.

I have some glass frames in this format to and want to experiment with them I may translate them into tissue to try to keep the feeling of transparency.

August Over

Most of August I normally spend out of the studio and researching on the coast. I have been collecting stones, found objects, taking photos, sketching etc. The aim is to return to the studio in September to work I am finding this difficult to do this year with weddings, anniversaries and my self doubt.

There has been some fantastic skies colours and textures in the sea. The sea seemed to be like a large lace fan opening out.
The shadow figures look great against the large prominent clouds which looked to me as if they could fall into the sea at any moment.

Perhaps putting some of my pics and sketches on the blog might help me kick start the process.
